Sikhism Sakhis

In the Sikh tradition, Sakhis are stories of courage and honor meant to inspire listeners and to teach them moral lessons. Originally, these Sakhis were based on actual Sikh history and were used to educate children about their heritage. Over time, however, the sharing of Sakhis degenerated into mere fictional storytelling, used more for entertainment than enlightenment. As a result, facts were distorted, and, at times, even the message about Sikhism that the Sakhi originally contained was completely lost.

In this section of Sikhism.com, we present to you Sakhis as they were intended to be. The take-home message of each Sakhi has been highlighted. We hope you find inspiration from this selection of real-life stories about great Sikhs.
